How You Can Help
Your Donation can help save the lives of Rescued Schnauzers! We frequently have rescued dogs come in with severe medical problems that require more treatment than our small adoption donations cover. While our adoption donation requested is usually $250, many dogs come in that require extensive surgeries or veterinarian visits that cost hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars. If you would like to help make a difference, please consider making an online, tax-deductible donation here: Donate Via PayPal Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group. YOU can help save a dog's life with any amount you can give, and your donation is completely tax-deductible.If you would like to send a donation by check please send it to:

HELP A SPECIAL SRC RESCUE -- B uster (SRC #561)Buster (561) came to SRC from a
family that could no longer afford to provide him with the vet care necessary to
heal his broken hind leg. He was hit by a car in November,2007 and our
organization was contacted by them last week. We were told that Buster was still
in a cast, and that he needed to be turned in because they could not continue to
pay the mounting medical expenses that Buster needed. On the transport to his foster home,
Buster wreaked of a very foul odor. This poor dog hadn't been bathed
since he was hit by the car three months previously. He was also suffering from
intermittent projectile vomiting. This precious dog was miserable and in
desperate need of tender care. So Buster was brought to his new foster home,
given a warm bath, and allowed to rest over the weekend before seeing the SRC
vet on Monday morning.
Early Monday morning Buster was seen
by an SRC vet and immediately admitted to their hospital. The diagnosis was
one that we feared would be forthcoming: Buster has been suffering for three
months with two fractures in his leg that had not been set properly and
therefore had not healed. In addition to this, the cast Buster was subjected to
covered every part of the leg, with no exposure allowing air flow or
monitoring of circulation—effectively killing vital tissues. His toes were
cramped into the bottom, and to make matters even worse, none of those treating
him initially had the common sense to simply shave his leg before applying the
cast. This has resulted in a horrid infection developing, an infection so severe
that there were holes in Buster's skin where bacteria has begun to eat away at
the tissue – thus causing the odor noticed so strongly during his recent
transport. His leg has already atrophied so much that it is half the size
of his good one. Buster favors it and will not put pressure on this foot due to
the intense pain this causes. Buster has been in severe pain since he was
hit by the vehicle and the pain has been intensifying with time rather than
healing as it should have with proper treatment.

Severe, constant pain, and these other issues with
Buster's leg, due to continual stress, and the negligence of his prior medical
treatment have caused Buster to develop what is thought to be a gastric ulcer
in his stomach. This is being treated as well as Buster’s other medical issues.
Although it is easy just to be
furious with those that have neglected and mistreated this boy medically we can
all learn from those like Buster! He is truly an amazing canine who will
never give up and never let life get him down! Although he has tremendous
challenges, Buster gets along just fine. He shoots up the stairs like a rocket,
and races in the yard chasing squirrels. Now that he is getting tender loving
care, and the proper medical attention he is very happy. He has never
been around other dogs before, and he has found a new best friend in a pit bull
named Phoenix, his foster sister. Once he heals from the upcoming surgery that
is scheduled he will be even better! This Thursday, (Feb 14th)
Buster will have his leg removed, so that he can go on to lead a normal,
pain-free, happy life. Obviously SRC will incur major expenses in order to assure
that Buster leads a healthy and happy life. This is our commitment to our
mission and we are truly grateful to be able to help Buster along with many
others like Buster that need our help. It is because of YOUR donations
that SRC is able to continue to fulfill this worthy mission, and see that dogs
like Buster do not suffer and die needlessly. Thank you so much for your
continued support. If you want to help with Buster’s medical expenses, you
may make a PayPal Donation here online, or you may mail your tax deductible
check or money order to: Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas, Inc 2643 Tumbleweed Dr Lenoir, NC 28645
